Our work

“Now is the time to think for the long term, to deliver more for young people and succeeding generations and to be better prepared for the challenges ahead.”

   – Our Common Agenda, UN Report 2021.

Every day, our actions, choices, and policies shape the future, impacting generations to come. This concept, powerfully presented 40 years ago in “Our Common Future,” remains profoundly relevant today.  It underscores a pivotal truth: our current way of living imparts long-term and permanent effects on our planet, as clearly evidenced by the irreversible environmental damages we face, such as climate change and the loss of biodiversity.

At NiFG, we are deeply committed to addressing these critical issues by strategically engaging with our members and beyond to advance future generations in governance and political agendas. Our core work involves nurturing a global network of organizations, leaders, and governance systems, all dedicated to safeguarding future generations. We engage in the international arena to foster effective governance frameworks and decision-making that promote the well-being of present and future generations. By actively supporting the development of institutions for future generations at all levels – international, national, regional, local – NiFG aims to strengthen our global commitment towards fighting long-term social, economic, and ecological challenges. We further promote the sharing of knowledge and advance best practices in respect of long-term governance through different measures and across various disciplines.
