Manifesto for Future Generations launch in the Dutch Parliament

The hague – netherlands

On April 25th, members of NiFG gathered at the Dutch Parliament Building in support of the launch of the Manifesto for Future Generations. This inspiring event, hosted by NiFG’s member Jan van de Venis and the Lab Toekomstige Generaties, underscored a bold vision for the Netherlands – a nation where the rights and interests of future generations are enshrined and protected. The manifesto advocates for:

  • Constitutional recognition of the human right to a healthy, clean and sustainable environment for present and future generations;
  • Enforcement of the ‘Act on the Welfare of Future Generations’ (Wet op het welzijn van toekomstige generaties)
  • Establishment of an independent advocate for Future Generations

NiFG members were invited to inform dialogues and share perspectives on intergenerational equity and futures governance. Our NIFG Chair, Prof. Daniella Tilbury (and former Commissioner for Sustainable Development and Future Generations of Gibraltar) opened the panel discussion that included Prof. Gyula Bándi (Ombudsman for Future Generations in Hungary), Derek Walker (Future Generations Commissioner for Wales), and Elizabeth Dirth (ZOE Institute).  The event also saw contributions from internationally renowned author, Roman Krnzaric; his widely acclaimed text ‘‘The Good Ancestor’ served as inspiration for thinking in longer term frames.
