Foundations for Tomorrow

Foundations for Tomorrow (FFT) is a youth-driven non-profit committed to renewing our approaches to leadership, decision-making and governance.

Our mission is to equip Australian leaders to think beyond electoral cycles and financial quarters to make the strategic long-term investments that lay the foundations for a thriving community, environment, and economy for years to come.

Our commitment is to overcome the short-term thinking that has increasingly dominated Australian leadership and policy decisions. By infusing global leading practice with a uniquely Australian approach, we envisage a clear path towards a more equitable and sustainable future for every Australian.

Our work focuses on:

  • Awareness & Dialogue: We collaborate with citizens, political leaders, and subject matter experts to develop strategies for safeguarding Australia’s future.
  • Research & Roadmaps: We bridge the gap between youthful exuberance and measurable impact by designing economically-informed and evidence-based pathways to a prosperous Australian future.
  • Activation & Mobilisation: We partner with leaders across government, industry and civil society to build capacity and momentum for the future generations movement.

Our core projects include:

  • The Australian Parliamentary Group for Future Generations is a collective of more than 20 Senators and Members of the Australian Parliament who are committed to securing Australia’s long-term prosperity.
  • The Australian Intergenerational Fairness Coalition is a collective of organisations committed to working together to see increased long-term thinking in Australian policymaking. Foundations for Tomorrow is a founding member and the 2024 Chair of the coalition.
  • Future Generations Leadership Development: The Future Generations Leadership Accelerator and the Future Generations Policy Leader Toolkit were designed in partnership with the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, to equip existing and emerging leaders with critical skills for future generations leadership and policy design.
  • International Insights & Advocacy: Our commitment extends beyond Australian borders, recognising that the future we endeavour to protect is interconnected with the global community. Foundations for Tomorrow is part of a larger, worldwide movement aimed at creating sustainable, long-term solutions for the world.
  • The Awareness to Action Consultation: Foundations for Tomorrow’s flagship project – the Awareness to Action Consultation – drew together more than 10,000 responses from young Australians to share with you a youth-led proposal for a more just, equitable and sustainable Australian future.
